Assistant to the Executive Director

Roundabout Theatre Company, the nation’s largest not-for-profit theatre company, seeks an Assistant to the Executive Director. This position reports to the Executive Director and calls for an individual to provide strong administrative support for the Executive Director and work with the Board and Government Relations Liaison to support the execution of overall Board and Government strategy. This candidate must have strong writing skills, an interest in grant-writing and government relations, and be highly detail-oriented as well as a team player. Experience with Tessitura, or another similar platform, preferred. At least 1 year of administrative, development, and/or government experience required.

Accountabilities include:
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director including scheduling, phone & email coverage, and authoring correspondence on her behalf
  • Execute various institutional, government and public relations projects at the direction of the Executive Director, including research and analysis of company and industry trends
  • Support the Board and Government Relations Liaison in Board-related tasks, such as meetings/special events preparation and protocol, correspondence, etc.
  • Support the Board and Government Relations Liaison in completing work for Roundabout’s annual government agency granting at the Federal, State, and City levels, such as grant applications and reporting
  • Manage the administration of monthly Government strategy meetings
  • Track Government/Pro bono gifts, correspondence, application submissions, and deadlines in Tessitura
  • Provide research as needed on prospective donors, Board Members, and NYC government officials
  • Manage the budget and petty cash for the Executive Director and External Affairs department
  • Assist as needed in Development operations, such as on-site support at Roundabout events, including the annual Spring Gala, Opening Nights and various fundraising events and benefits
  • Other special projects as assigned, such as the company’s Year in Review video
Bachelor’s degree preferred and at least 1-3 years’ experience with development database operations at a not-for-profit organization is required. Experience with Tessitura is a major plus. Excellent administrative, communication, and computer skills (including MS Office) are also required.
