Page to Stage
Bringing Theatrical Teaching Strategies
to the Classroom
Page to Stage, a residency program developed through collaborations between classroom teachers and theatre artists, is designed to help teachers incorporate theatre into their curriculum and add to their repertoire of teaching strategies. Classroom activities are based on the season's productions; they include the examination of dramatic literature and performance as vital tools for illuminating the issues of today's culture and practical instruction in the techniques of playwriting, directing, acting or other theatre-related skills.
Program components include:
Professional Development activities
including Roundabout's Summer Teaching Institute, Preview Workshops, Orientation Meetings at each school and ongoing collaborative planning with Roundabout Teaching Artists
Preview ticket vouchers
to each Roundabout production that the class will attend, to aid the development of appropriate lessons that prepare students to attend the theatre
A class set of Roundabout's production guide
for students, which illuminate central themes and issues in the play
Student tickets
to two Roundabout productions
Post-performance discussions
with cast members (at select performances)
Ten artist visits
to each participating classroom, to develop students' understanding of how theatre conveys meaning
