At its Spring Gala on Monday, April 22, Roundabout is proud to name Christopher Plummer as the first recipient. Mr. Plummer was an old friend of Mr. Robards, and the two established themselves as leaders in the theatre industry in the course of their prolific careers. Together they appeared in Roundabout’s 1994 production of Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land, and both also served for many years as members of the company’s board. In addition to winning international acclaim for their outstanding performances, each artist is celebrated for his unique commitment to special material: Mr. Robards for his roles in Eugene O’Neill’s plays, and Mr. Plummer in Shakespearean drama.
The Spring Gala and inaugural award ceremony will be hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, and the event’s honorary chairs include Julie Andrews, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Joanne Woodward. The ceremony, which follows cocktails and dinner, will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street.
Roundabout invites all who wish to join the celebration of these two unparalleled artists.Single tickets begin at $750 and tables at $7500; for more information please contact Margie Lempert at 212.719.9393.
