Renovations

Although Studio 54 has been functioning as a theatre for the past few years, major renovations are necessary to make it a state-of-the-art musical theatre venue. The intent of the renovations is to keep the distressed, distinctive feel of the theatre, while updating the technical capabilities of the space and improving the artist and audience amenities. Current improvements underway include replacing the grid and fly systems, repairing the water damaged plaster ceiling and painted walls, reconstructing the stairs in the mezzanine, upgrading the plumbing and HVAC systems, and installing soundproof doors throughout the theatre. Beginning with Pacific Overtures, audiences in the mezzanine will begin to actually see and feel some of the improvements, as the installation of new seats in the upper level will be complete.

One of the most exciting aspects of the renovations is an innovative system of flexible seating in the orchestra level. Following Pacific Overtures, seating in the lower level will undergo a complete transformation when traditional seating is installed on a removable platform system. By building detachable raked platforms and seats, Studio 54 will have the ability to switch back and forth from a configuration of cabaret seating to traditional theatre seating, depending on the artistic needs of the production. Studio 54 will be the only Broadway theatre to have this unique seating flexibility.

Over the next five years, we will be working to secure $10 million in funding for additional renovations to further enhance the theatre experience for our artists and audiences. Plans include a donor lounge, improved dressing rooms, further renovations to the infrastructure of the theatre, and overall improved accommodations for our audiences.
