Student Production Workshop

What is Student Production Workshop?

Roundabout Theatre Company’s after school program, Student Production Workshop (SPW), is a student led theatre company modeled after Roundabout’s professional theatre production process.

Overview

FALL: Interviews and auditions to become a member of the SPW ensemble. Students will be placed into a theatrical track for the school year. These tracks are performance, tech/design, and playwriting. Throughout the fall each track will meet once a week to learn about their discipline through workshops and hands-on projects. Once a month the ensemble will come together to see a Roundabout production and meet with professional artists.

WINTER: The ensemble will continue to meet on a weekly basis working towards producing a showcase where playwrights, designers, and performers can share the work they’ve been doing. The group will see each of Roundabout’s winter productions.

SPRING: Interviews for SPW leaders will take place. Three plays will be expanded and produced by the SPW ensemble as staged readings in Roundabout’s Black Box Theatre- the final school- year event for the ensemble.

SUMMER: SPW leaders hold open auditions for student actors and interview student designers for the summer production. Once the company is selected, they embark on a seven week student-led production process, culminating in four public performances in August.
