Roundabout Theatre Company’s after school program, Roundabout Youth Ensemble (RYE, formerly Student Production Workshop), is a student-led theatre company modeled after Roundabout’s professional theatre production process.
Interviews and auditions to become a member of the RYE ensemble. Students will be placed into a theatrical track for the school year. These tracks are performance, tech/design, and playwriting. Throughout the fall each track will meet once a week to learn about their discipline through workshops and hands-on projects. Once a month the ensemble will come together to see a Roundabout production and meet with professional artists.
The ensemble will continue to meet on a weekly basis working towards producing a showcase where playwrights, designers, and performers can share the work they’ve been doing. The group will see each of Roundabout’s winter productions.
Interviews for RYE leaders will take place. Three plays will be expanded and produced by the RYE ensemble as staged readings in Roundabout’s Black Box Theatre—the final school-year event for the ensemble.
RYE leaders hold open auditions for student actors and interview student designers for the summer production. Once the company is selected, they embark on a seven week student-led production process, culminating in four public performances in August.
ROUNDABOUT YOUTH AMBASSADORS
Roundabout Youth Ambassadors are a council of students who represent all five NYC boroughs. They advise on Education at Roundabout programs to ensure that our participants are always kept at the center of our work. Youth Ambassadors engage in leadership development programing and meet monthly to develop these skills, discuss their experiences with Roundabout, and offer suggestions to address program areas of growth. Travel and meals are provided for each meeting and event. Youth Ambassadors serve a year long term and are elected by their peers.
