{"title":"Douglas Hodge","role":"Director","image":"","lede":null,"content":"<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p><strong>DOUGLAS HODGE (Director)<\/strong> returns to Roundabout Theatre Company following his critically acclaimed performance as Cyrano in the 2012 Broadway production of Cyrano de Bergerac. An Olivier\u2010 and Tony Award winning actor, Douglas is currently playing Inspector Rusk in season two of \u201cPenny Dreadful,\u201d opposite Eva Green and Josh Hartnett. He has recently wrapped work on <em>Tulip Fever<\/em> for director Justin Chadwick and The Weinstein Company. In May, Douglas completed his celebrated year\u2010long run as the legendary Willy Wonka in <em>Charlie and the Chocolate Factory<\/em>, directed on the West End by Sam Mendes. For his performance, Douglas was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for the fifth time, following nominations for 2012 Best Actor for <em>Inadmissible Evidence<\/em> (nomination), 2009 Best Actor in a Musical for <em>La Cage Aux Folles<\/em> (winner), 2006 Best Actor in a Musical for <em>Guys and Dolls<\/em> (nomination) and 2001 Best Supporting Actor for <em>The Caretaker<\/em> (nomination). Known as a premiere interpreter of Harold Pinter\u2019s plays, Douglas surprised and starred as Albin in the West End production and Broadway transfer of <em>La Cage Aux Folles<\/em> for which his performance won him a Tony Award (Best Actor), a Drama Desk Award (Best Actor) and an Outer Critics Award (Best Actor). Douglas\u2019s versatility extends into his work in film and television.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>He has appeared on the big screen for major directors including <em>Robin Hood<\/em> directed by Ridley Scott, <em>Diana<\/em> directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, and <em>Vanity Fair<\/em> directed by Mira Nair. His television credits include \u201cOne Night\u201d (BBC) and the miniseries \u201cThe Town\u201d and \u201cSecret State.\u201d Douglas was the associate director for the Donmar Theatre\u2019s sold out West End run of <em>See How They Run<\/em>. He also has two albums of compositions: <em>Cowley Road Songs<\/em> and <em>Nightbus<\/em>, and won the Stiles and Drew Best Songwriter Award in 2011.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->","website":"","alt":""}
