{"title":"Stephen Sondheim","role":"Music and Lyrics","image":"","lede":null,"content":"<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p><strong>STEPHEN SONDHEIM (Music and Lyrics)<\/strong> wrote the music and lyrics for Saturday Night (1954), A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum (1962), Anyone Can Whistle (1964), Company (1970), Follies (1971), <em>A Little Night Music<\/em>(1973), <em>The Frogs<\/em> (1974), <em>Pacific Overtures<\/em> (1976),<em> Sweeney Todd<\/em> (1979), <em>Merrily We Roll Along<\/em> (1981), <em>Sunday In The Park With George<\/em> (1984), <em>Into The Woods<\/em> (1987), <em>Assassins<\/em> (1991), <em>Passion<\/em> (1994) and <em>Road Show<\/em> (2008), as well as lyrics for <em>West Side Story<\/em> (1957), <em>Gypsy<\/em> (1959),<em> Do I Hear A Waltz? <\/em>(1965) and additional lyrics for <em>Candide<\/em> (1973). <em>Side By Side By Sondheim<\/em> (1976), <em>Marry Me A Little<\/em> (1981), <em>You\u2019re Gonna Love Tomorrow<\/em> (1983), <em>Putting It Together \ufeff<\/em>(1993\/99), <em>Moving On<\/em> (2001) and <em>Sondheim On Sondheim<\/em> (2010) are anthologies of his work as composer and lyricist.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>For films, he composed the score of <em>Stavisky<\/em> (1974), co-composed the score for <em>Reds<\/em> (1981) and wrote songs for <em>Dick Tracy<\/em>(1990).  He wrote songs for the television production \u201cEvening Primrose\u201d (1966), co-authored the film <em>The Last of Sheila <\/em>(1973) and the play <em>Getting Away With Murder<\/em> (1996) and provided incidental music for the plays <em>The Girls Of Summer<\/em>(1956), <em>Invitation To A March<\/em> (1961), <em>Twigs<\/em> (1971) and <em>The Enclave<\/em> (1973). His collected lyrics with attendant essays have been published in two volumes: \"Finishing the Hat\" (2010) and \"Look, I Made A Hat\" (2011). In 2010 the Broadway theater formerly known as Henry Miller's Theatre was renamed in his honor.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->","website":"","alt":""}
