Gavin Creel received a Tony Award for his performance as \u201cCornelius Hackl\u201d in the acclaimed 2017 revival of Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce.<\/p>\n","content":"
He made his Broadway debut originating the role of \u201cJimmy Smith\u201d in Thoroughly Modern Millie,<\/em> for which he received his first Tony Award nomination. He has since created such memorable performances on Broadway as \u201cJean-Michel\u201d in the 2004 revival of La Cage Aux Folles,<\/em> \u201cClaude\u201d in the 2009 revival of Hair,<\/em> which earned him a second Tony Award nomination, and \u201cStephen Kodaly\" in the Roundabout Theater Company\u2019s 2016 revival of She Loves Me,<\/em> which was filmed live and is available on BroadwayHD. No stranger to London audiences, Gavin most notably originated the role of \u201cElder Price\u201d in the West End production of The Book of Mormon,<\/em> for which he received the 2014 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He also starred as \u201cBert\u201d in Disney\u2019s Mary Poppins<\/em> and the revival of Hair.<\/em> Other stage credits include: The Book of Mormon<\/em> (on Broadway and originating the First National Tour), and the world premieres of Stephen Sondheim\u2019s Bounce<\/em> at Goodman Theatre and The Kennedy Center, and Prometheus Bound<\/em> at A.R.T. On television, Gavin co-starred alongside Julie Andrews in ABC\u2019s Eloise at the Plaza<\/em> and Eloise at Christmastime.<\/em> He has released three original albums \u201cGoodtimenation,\u201d \u201cQuiet\u201d (which landed on \u201cBillboard\u2019s Top Heat Seekers\u201d) and \u201cGet Out,\u201d and his single \u201cNoise\u201d raised money and awareness for marriage equality. Creel was a co-founder of Broadway Impact, the first and only grassroots organization to mobilize the nationwide theater community in support of marriage equality.
