Roundabout provides hands-on learning opportunities for students and aspiring arts professionals interested in theatre administration careers through full-time season-long apprenticeships. For more information on apprenticeships, visit our website.

This is some of what the Education Apprentice will do:

  • Operations
    • Assist with department administrative tasks including expense tracking, COVID monitoring, space reservations, and inventory/supplies maintenance
    • Attend and take notes at Education meetings and collaborate with the Education Assistant to create weekly department memos
    • Coordinate the documentation and assessment of Education programs. This can include disseminating surveys, taking photos and updating Education’s social accounts
    • Provide support to all Education programs including Community Partnerships, Audience Engagement, and Theatrical Workforce Development Program
  • Teaching and Learning
    • Assist the Teaching & Learning staff’s delivery of education programs including school partnerships, professional development, and Roundabout Youth Ensemble
    • Collect, organize, and disseminate workshop materials and work toward autonomous coordination of workshops
    • Observe teaching artists in workshops & school residencies
    • Liaise with school programs staff to establish and maintain a visual presence for engagement opportunities at partner schools (I.e. bulletin boards, flyers, show posters, etc.)
    • Work closely with Education staff, teaching artists, and teen company to produce the Roundabout Youth Ensemble summer production
  • Professional Development 
    • Participate in internal professional development events & activities including monthly arts education trainings and biannual staff retreats
    • Participate in sponsored external professional development events and activities including attendance at annual New York City Arts in Education Roundtable Face to Face conference


This is some of what the Education Apprentice should bring:

  • A desire to learn more about the NYC Department of Education and its students, teachers, and administrators
  • An interest in developing theatre curriculum
  • An interest in facilitating theatrical skill building and experiences with young people aged 12-18
  • Willingness to learn new software as it pertains to job responsibilities
  • The ability to work collaboratively with multiple full time staff members, part time Teaching Artists and students
  • The ability to navigate the NYC transit system
  • The ability to work on two projects at once and prioritize tasks accordingly
  • The ability to work some weekday nights and weekends for events
  • The ability to work remotely with internet access; laptop would be provided if needed
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite


This is some of what the Education Apprentice should expect:

  •  You will report to the Education Assistant
  • 40-hour work week from January through August 2022; may include overtime for events (will be compensated and given advance notice)
  • $15/hour, plus benefits
  • In-person details to be determined
  • Weekly career-building seminars with senior staff, apprentice alumni, and teaching artists 
  • Inter-department mentorship program 
  • Networking opportunities with interns/apprentices/fellows across the arts administration industry 
  • Invitation to serve on Roundabout internal staff committees (Staff Programming Committee, Internal Communications Committee, Green Committee)
  • Invitation to participate in Roundabout identity-based affinity groups
  • Invitation to participate in personal and companywide volunteer opportunities (includes Roundabout related events: opening nights and annual gala; and non-Roundabout volunteer opportunities to support organizations of your choice)
