She Loves Me

Tony Award nominee Gavin Creel (Hair, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Tony Award winner Jane Krakowski (Nine, Company, TV's "30 Rock"), three-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara (The Pajama Game & South Pacific), Josh Radnor (The Graduate, TV's "How I Met Your Mother"), Peter Bartlett (A Free Man of Color, TV's "One Life to Live"), Tony Award nominee Michael McGrath (Spamalot, Memphis), Tony Award nominee Rory O'Malley (The Book of Mormon) and four-time Tony Award nominee Victor Garber (Damn Yankees, Present Laughter, TV's "Alias") led an all-star cast in a one-night only performance of Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof) and Joe Masteroff's (Cabaret) romantic musical comedy She Loves Me. Scott Ellis (She Loves Me, 1776, Curtains) directed the evening as a celebration of Roundabout's 20th anniversary of producing on Broadway including its rich tradition of staging classic musicals, which began with She Loves Me.

First seen on Broadway in 1963, She Loves Me was lost to generations of theatregoers until Roundabout's 1993 Broadway revival, also directed by Ellis. The critically acclaimed production was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, and won the 1994 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical Revival. She Loves Me launched Roundabout's Musical Theatre program, leading to celebrated productions such as Cabaret, 1776, Nine, Assassins, The Pajama Game, Sunday in the Park with George and the current 2011 Tony Award-winning revival of Anything Goes.
 
With a melodic and witty score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof) and a wonderful book by Joe Masteroff (Cabaret), She Loves Me is based on a play by Miklos Laszlo that also became the basis of the classic film The Shop Around the Corner and more recently You've Got Mail. The story follows Amalia (O'Hara) and Georg (Radnor), two feuding clerks in a European parfumerie during the 1930s who secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pen pals, little knowing their respective correspondents are actually each other!
