Violet

Two-time Tony Award® winner Sutton Foster returns to Roundabout in the Tony nominated Broadway debut of the musical Violet, following the acclaimed concert performance at City Center Encores! Off-Center. Winner of the Drama Critics’ Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical when it premiered off-Broadway, Violet features a score of show-stopping anthems ranging from American-roots to folk to gospel. The “phenomenal” (NY1) cast includes Colin Donnell (Roundabout’s Anything Goes, Jersey Boys), Alexander Gemignani (Assassins, Sunday in the Park with George) and two-time Tony nominee Joshua Henry (The Scottsboro Boys, The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess).

The final performance on August 10 at 2pm will be a benefit to support Education at Roundabout. A portion of the ticket will be a tax-deductible contribution. Funds support Roundabout’s work this season serving over 6,000 young people with theatre-based curriculum, after school workshops, and student matinees like Violet.

Violet tells the story of a young woman’s quest for beauty amidst the image-obsessed landscape of the 1960s. Facially disfigured in a childhood accident, Violet dreams of a miraculous transformation through the power of faith. Convinced that a televangelist in Oklahoma can heal her, she hops a Greyhound bus and starts the journey of a lifetime. Along the way, Violet forms unlikely friendships with her fellow riders, who teach her about beauty, love, courage and what it means to be an outsider.

Violet is a thought-provoking, original musical that challenges you to look below the surface. Don’t miss your opportunity to see it on Broadway for the first time ever!

Previews began March 28, 2014
Opening Night: April 20, 2014

Violet will be produced in association with Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, David Mirvish, Barry and Fran Weissler, Elizabeth Armstrong, and Mary Jo and Ted Shen.
