A Roundabout TheatreLab workshop by Margot Bordelon.
Over the course of four two-hour sessions, this lab will use a number of specific ghost stories as a launching off point for visual exploration and creation over Zoom. We will begin with an investigation of atmosphere and imagery, and we will end the course with participants sharing their own short-form original works.
This lab will focus on collaboration, text analysis, spontaneous creation, and performance. Bring a sense of openness, generosity, and play! If possible, it is preferred that participants are Zooming from a laptop in a space where they can feel comfortable and confident moving about and taking risks. Access to either Dropbox and/or Google Drive will allow group work to be shared.
All sessions to be conducted via Zoom.
WEEK ONE | OCTOBER 19, 6-8pm EST
ATMOSPHERE, AND REOCCURRING THEMES AND IMAGES
We will discuss and analyze specific ghost stories, then explore atmosphere through solo physical exercises that will be presented to the group.
WEEK TWO | OCTOBER 26, 6-8pm EST
CHARACTER, RELATIONSHIP, PLOT
Building upon our solo work from week one, we will break up into small groups and begin to explore basic plot and the relationships between specific characters.
WEEK THREE | NOVEMBER 2, 6-8pm EST
INCORPORATING TEXT IN PERFORMANCE
In this class we move beyond our non-verbal, visual exploration and begin incorporating text into our compositional group exercises, working towards finding a balance between imagery and speaking.
WEEK FOUR | NOVEMBER 9, 6-8pm EST
FINAL PROJECT SHARE AND DISCUSSION
We will end the course with each participant sharing a short piece they have created -- these can be pre-recorded or performed live.
