New Work Off-Broadway

Announcing the first three shows of our 2019-2020 season.

New Work Off-Broadway

We are thrilled to announce a line-up of all new work off-Broadway.

Our 2019–2020 season will include a new commission by Roundabout Underground alumnus Jiréh Breon Holder and the first Roundabout Underground musical in more than a decade.

As part of the New Play Initiative, each participating Underground playwright receives a commission for another new play, demonstrating an unparalleled level of commitment to writers’ careers and the future of theatre in New York.

72 Miles to Go...

First up, it's the the New York premiere of 72 Miles to go... by Hilary Bettis.

This play follows a splintered family over 10 years of strength, struggle and love, as they face the profoundly personal drama of immigration.

...what the end will be

Next, playwright Jiréh Breon Holder and director Margot Bordelon return to the Steinberg Center with …what the end will be following their critically acclaimed production of Too Heavy for Your Pocket.

In this new work commissioned by Roundabout, three generations of men live under one roof and grapple with their own truths of what it means to be black and gay.

Darling Grenadine

Finally, Roundabout Underground debuts its first new musical in a decade. Featuring a vibrantly eclectic score and stirring book and lyrics by Daniel Zaitchik and direction and choreography by Michael Berresse.

Bubbling over with charm, wit, and whimsy, Darling Grenadine navigates the tension between romance and reality, light and dark, bitter and sweet.
