Summary:

The Development/Special Events Fellow will learn about and support the daily essential operations of a non-for-profit Development team of 20, reporting to the Special Events Associate and Development Manager. The Fellow will be trained to use Microsoft Suite, Tessitura, Trello, and sharpen communication, project organization, and special event administrative skills. The Development/Special Events Fellow will also assist with an Individual Giving or Institutional Donor project based on interest and skillset and the project management of one Insider Donor Event, gaining experience in coordinating internal and external development communications, navigating logistical challenges surrounding special events, and providing support for various administrative projects. After completing the Development/Special Events Fellowship, we expect that the Fellow will be ready for a wide variety of positions, such as Development Assistant, Communications Assistant, Special Events Assistant, and entry-level Development, administrative roles at any organization.    

Job Responsibilities:

55% (~22 hours per week) - Daily Operations of Department   

  • Development Department support, including but not limited to: Proof-reading communications; auditing donor crediting; monitoring department email box; organizing mailings and drafting correspondence; maintaining department records; gift entry support; researching prospective individual, institutional, and corporate funders  
  • Special Events support, including but not limited to: Planning and coordination of special events (Gala fundraisers / online auction, opening night parties, donor dinners, institutional events, and play readings)  
  • Carry out special projects as needed, including direct assistance to the Special Events Associate and Development Manager  


30% (~10 hours per week) – Long term projects

  • An Individual Giving or Institutional Donor project based on interest and skillset  
  • Project management of one Insider Donor Event    


10% (~16 hours per month) – Mentoring and Professional Development/Training Events  
 

  • Meeting with an interdepartmental mentor once a month   
  • Fall/Spring Summit   
  • Alumni Panel & Events   
  • Meet & Greets with other theatre companies and their workforce program cohorts   
  • Attendance at APAP Conference   

  
5% (~8 hours per month) – Weekly Seminars and Workshops 

  • Meet + Q&A with all Senior Staff at Roundabout
  • Professional Skills Workshops such as Planning a Season, Production Budgets, Professional Organizations for Arts Administrators, Resume Review & Interview Practice, etc.    

What You Bring to the Development Department:

  • Digital literacy and clerical skills (i.e. using office equipment and tools such as computers and document management systems, basic data entry, scheduling meetings)   
  • High proficiency in both verbal and written communication (i.e. must be comfortable with picking up the phone, drafting and sending emails, presenting)   
  • Must be able to work at a desk for long periods of time   
  • Willingness to complete all tasks as directed including learning new software as it pertains to job responsibilities  
  • Detail-Oriented  
  • Problem solving, solution-based mindset  
  • Strong interest in fundraising and special events for a not-for-profit  
  • Interpersonal skillset in engaging with colleagues, donors, and external vendors (via email, phone, and in-person communication)

  • Ability to work remotely with internet access; laptop would be provided if needed
