Summary:

The Management Fellow will learn about and support the daily essential operations of the not-for-profit General Management team at Roundabout, dual reporting to the Administration Associate and the Associate General Manager. The Fellow will be trained to competently provide support for artists, research contracts, read and apply union agreements, and understand the Broadway and Off-Broadway theatrical landscape. The Management Fellow will also assist with the execution of Roundabout’s season, gaining experience in contract interpretation and negotiation, and the opportunity to engage with the work of theatre administrators, General Managers, Company Managers, and House/Theatre Managers. After completing the Management Fellowship, we expect that the Fellow will be ready for a wide variety of positions, such as administrative roles at any organization and company management or general management roles at other arts and entertainment organizations.  

Job Responsibilities:

65% (~26 hours per week) - Daily Operations of Department    

  • Maintain artist contracts and ensure proper mailing or filing of documents  
  • Provide research support towards the negotiation of union labor contracts  
  • Report and summarize Broadway shows’ financial and attendance numbers  
  • Fulfill House Seat and Tony Voter requests, managing communication and troubleshooting as necessary  
  • Assist General Management team during readings, workshops, or special events, including benefit readings and the annual Roundabout Gala  
  • Document, scan, and organize union work-rule decisions  
  • Assist with post-negotiation documentation of labor agreements  
  • Assist with the execution of opening nights, organizing seating and communicating with ticketholders Provide general support to General Management and Administration teams  


20% (~8 hours per week) – Long term projects    

  • Create and maintain a database of artists, designers, and directors for the use of the Management Department, complete with unique contract terms  
  • Research and summarize Roundabout’s past practice on union contract interpretation into a comprehensive spreadsheet for quick reference  


10% (~16 hours per month) – Mentoring and Professional Development/Training Events
   

  • Meeting with an interdepartmental mentor once a month   
  • Fall/Spring Summit   
  • Alumni Panel & Events   
  • Meet & Greets with other theatre companies and their workforce program cohorts   
  • Attendance at APAP Conference   


5% (~8 hours per month) – Weekly Seminars and Workshops

  • Meet + Q&A with all Senior Staff at Roundabout   
  • Professional Skills Workshops such as Planning a Season, Production Budgets, Professional Organizations for Arts Administrators, Resume Review & Interview Practice, etc. 

What You Bring to the Management Department:

  • Digital literacy and clerical skills (i.e. using office equipment and tools such as computers and document management systems, basic data entry, file organization, and scheduling meetings)  
  • High proficiency in both verbal and written communication (i.e. Must be able to competently and confidently make phone calls or draft emails)  
  • Knowledge of or a willingness to learn Excel and other applications in the Microsoft Suite  
  • Strong interest in working with artists and unions  
  • Desk research skills – comfortable researching a topic and presenting a summary  
  • Enjoys using analytical skills to problem solve, both independently and in collaboration with a team  
  • Flexibility in schedule, as this role will directly support the live productions taking place in the evenings, nights, and occasional weekends  
  • An ability to work primarily in-person in midtown Manhattan, with some light online work possible  
  • An ability to lift up to 25 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
