Theatrical Teaching Institute.
A six-day course exploring how educators and teaching artists can use theatre to ignite active learning.
Roundabout’s Theatrical Teaching Institute (TTI) is a six-day course exploring how educators and teaching artists can center learners as artists, leverage their skills as theatre makers and celebrate the process of collaborative creation.
Rooted in Roundabout’s Theatrical Teaching Framework, TTI posits that the elements of a great play can be used to craft engaging and effective lessons and classrooms. Participate in interactive sessions exploring how to use theatre to create active, inquiry-based classroom experiences for students. Over the course of six days, participants engage in workshops and activities to apply theatrical elements — theme, plot, spectacle, character, and more — to academic content, lesson structure, classroom setting, and teaching presence.
A typical day runs 9:30am–5:00pm and includes workshops focused on Roundabout’s Theatrical Teaching Framework and creative exploration and theatre making. Lunch is not included. NYC Teachers can earn CTLE hours.

What educators are saying.
Roundabout’s TTI provides a fresh approach to teaching—regardless of subject area—that can elevate not just content delivery, but long-lasting experiences for students.
Jim BranniganSmithtown High School English TeacherThis institute has elevated my perception of theatre in the classroom. I’ve been given practical, rich, tangible ways to enhance and deepen student understanding of concepts and content. The application of Common Core Standards…was extremely evident in every piece of this week. Thank you.
Erica CorlitoPS214 Theatre Arts TeacherBy the end of the week, I felt challenged and proud of all I (and my group) had accomplished. I can’t recall the last time I had worked this hard toward a specific end goal, and I am grateful to the Roundabout facilitators for believing in me. I truly felt like a student again, and I am proud of my accomplishments!
