Dear friend,

Welcome to the world premiere of Eboni Booth’s Primary Trust in the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center. This is a play personally shepherded through its development by my recently passed friend and Roundabout colleague Todd Haimes, so I’m especially thrilled to see it onstage.

Primary Trust invites us to contemplate what it means to belong, to be seen, and to find meaning through the ups and downs of our lives. Eboni has imagined a small-town world that is equal parts delightful and devastating, and her play encourages us to look for the hope in change and to take comfort in the small gestures we make to help each other feel more at home.

This is Eboni’s Roundabout debut, and we are thrilled to bring back director Knud Adams, who directed our 2022 co-production, with Atlantic Theater Company, of Sanaz Toossi’s English. We are also incredibly lucky to welcome this extraordinary cast, led by William Jackson Harper, whom you’ll recognize from his four seasons on TV’s The Good Place, for which he was Emmy nominated, and April Matthis from her riveting performance in the title role in our 2019 production of Toni Stone.

Thank you for joining us at Primary Trust. I ask you to share your thoughts on this production and our whole season by emailing me at ArtisticOffice@roundabouttheatre.org.

Sincerely,

Scott Ellis
Interim Artistic Director

IN OUR LEADER’S HONOR
